Map of Akhand Bharat showing historical boundaries and present-day divisions

Akhand Bharat is not an imagination – it is the aspiration of the people of this nation.

This is the grand form of our motherland, Bharat, that has existed for lakhs of years since the Vedic age. In Brihaspati Agama Shastra, Vishnu Purana, as well as in the works of Kalidasa and Acharya Chanakya, the boundaries of our nation have been clearly described. At that time, the expanse of our country was about 70,40,700 sq. km.

Hindudesh, in its long history, has had to face many foreign invasions. Not only did it resist these invasions, but it also has a history of driving away the aggressors. Starting with the invasion in A.D. 712 by Muhammad bin Qasim, sent by the Arab rulers of Baghdad, for several centuries Hindus faced numerous invasions that came upon them as life-and-death struggles. They had to live every moment fighting. The period from the Arab invasion of 712 to the death of Aurangzeb in 1707 was a long nightmare. In Europe, a war lasting one hundred years between England and France is called the “Hundred Years’ War.” Here in Hindustan, the Hindus had to wage war for a thousand years against the Muhammadan invaders. These Muslim invasions subjected the people here to unspeakable suffering and unprecedented humiliation. Groups upon groups, like demonic hordes, came as aggressors attempting to push this country into a sea of death. They incited the youth in their armies to commit atrocities. Even during such times, Hindus stood firm and resisted them with great courage.

Later, the British strengthened their hold and began looting in the name of the East India Company. Lakhs of patriots offered their lives to Bharat Mata, yet Bharat Mata was partitioned into Pakistan and Hindustan on August 15th when independence was granted. Some leaders celebrated the partition with joy. Innocent citizens thought true independence had been achieved.

Among our leaders, the yearning for complete independence died. Do we still have that heroic devotion towards our motherland blazing in our hearts? If such a feeling had existed in both our leaders and common people, would the partition of the country have happened? Would we not have refused any compromise, faced the conspiracies of the British and Muslims, and protected the sacred integrity of our motherland by assuming a mighty form and being ready to offer our last drop of blood? That did not happen. Instead, following the footsteps of their leaders, the people too drowned in celebrations under the illusion that complete independence had been won.

Some say, “What’s done is done, what’s the use of digging up old issues? The partition of the country is now irreversible.” But will it ever truly be impossible? When the sight of the mother goddess torn into pieces appears before our eyes every moment, what son can forget that and sit idle scratching his nails? Forget it? No true son will rest until he beholds again the undivided form of the mother goddess. If the partition of the country is irreversible, we are here to reverse it. In reality, there is nothing in this world that is irreversible. Whether matters are certain or uncertain depends only on human will. When a man realises that the work he has undertaken is sacred and noble, the iron in his body hardens with unyielding determination.

Some justify the partition saying, “Hindus and Muslims are brothers. Partitioning the country is like brothers dividing property. What’s wrong in that?” But have we ever heard of children chopping their own mother into pieces claiming she is their common property? How ghastly a fall is this! This is no longer a land of Dharma, Karma, and Punya; the motherland has been reduced to a commodity for distribution, a land of pleasure, an inn. Such low thinking is the reason we cut the mother into pieces. Lakhs of brothers’ blood flowed like rivers. We are still experiencing the poisonous consequences of partition.

Let us know when and how much land we have lost from Akhand Bharat.

First partition with the creation of Afghanistan: During British exploitation, their influence in Gandhara and Upaganastan regions diminished, leading to the establishment of a Muslim kingdom there, and in 1739 the country of Afghanistan was formed. After the birth of Islam, Muslim invaders destroyed the culture, temples, and other sacred centres in every place they occupied, forcibly converting all people to Islam. With Muslim dominance, in 1739 they tore away the Gandhara kingdom from Akhand Bharat, forming the independent state of Afghanistan. With the loss of Afghanistan from Akhand Bharat, the remaining area was 70,40,700 – 6,52,100 = 63,88,600 sq. km.

Sri Lanka and Myanmar separation: After the beginning of British rule in our country, as part of their cunning “divide and rule” policy, in 1912 they separated Sri Lanka, and in 1937 Burma (Brahmadesh, now Myanmar) from India. With Sri Lanka and Burma gone from Akhand Bharat, the remaining area became 63,88,600 – 7,42,200 = 56,46,400 sq. km.

Fourth partition into India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan: On August 14th, 1947, the British government split India into India and Pakistan, declaring independence for Pakistan (Sindh Desh) on the same day. The next day, August 15th, the truncated India was granted independence. At the same time, Nepal and Bhutan also emerged as independent kingdoms. Tibet, steeped in Indian culture, was then an independent country under our protection. By August 15th, including Tibet, India’s area was 56,46,400 – 11,32,200 = 45,14,200 sq. km.

For hundreds of thousands of years, Tibet (Trivishtap) had Buddhism as the official religion and Hindu culture as its way of life, acting as a neutral state under India’s protection. Taking advantage of India’s indifferent and negligent attitude, China occupied the entire Tibetan region by 1960 and annexed it. Later, the Indian government accepted and confirmed this annexation. With the loss of Tibet from India, the remaining area was 45,14,200 – 12,21,000 = 32,93,200 sq. km.

Two months after independence in 1947, Pakistan invaded Jammu and Kashmir, occupying 78,000 sq. km. In 1962, China attacked India, occupying 37,550 sq. km in Ladakh (part of Jammu & Kashmir). Excluding the occupied areas of Kashmir and Ladakh, our current actual area is 32,93,200 – 1,15,550 = 31,77,650 sq. km.

There was also a conspiracy to form “Mughalistan” by combining areas with large Muslim populations in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. As part of this, in Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam, the Muslim population was rapidly increased. It is notable that two crore Muslim infiltrators from Bangladesh have settled permanently in these regions. This conspiracy was thwarted by the revered Guru Golwalkar and Sardar Patel.

Leaders’ careless statements after independence: Soon after independence, our country was not short of leaders who easily said “let it go” whenever there was an invasion or threat to our territory. When the Chinese occupied some parts of Ladakh, they said, “Let it be! Not a single blade of grass grows there.” Regarding NEFA (now Arunachal Pradesh), there was malicious propaganda that it was uninhabitable, a nest of snakes, and that local leeches would even enter the throats of our military officers and suck their blood. Newspapers that should have been instilling patriotism in the people gave prominence to such propaganda. This created aversion among the public towards our territories.

The same happened regarding the “Kutch Badava” (in Gujarat). When key positions there were occupied by the enemy, alongside alarming news, contemptuous descriptions of the region appeared in our newspapers. Even in a government leaflet, Kutch was described as a barren desert where not a single blade of grass grew, submerged in seawater for most of the year, swarming with flies, and where it was difficult to even drink a gulp of water without swallowing some flies.

One wonders if these incidents were part of a plot to create a favorable atmosphere for the enemy to capture these territories without public resistance. Or perhaps, due to lack of foresight, such news was widely spread — which is dangerous. For if it is done knowingly, it is crookedness; if done naturally, it shows that the inner love for the motherland has died out.

When thousands of miles were occupied by China, our leaders dismissed it as a mere border dispute. They would say, “In those snowy peaks, it doesn’t matter if ten miles here or there are lost.” Which means, thousands of miles lost here, and not even a mile lost there — such was the logic. Moreover, they themselves said that the border line “cannot be precisely defined.”

We must keep Akhand Bharat alive in our hearts: We must keep our goal bright. People must strive hard to protect the integrity of the motherland. But sadly, there is no comprehensive guidance to inspire them. If an invasion occurs, our leaders’ mentality was to gift away territory. We are forgetting that invasions even happened. How many of us feel the humiliation that we can no longer see sacred Kailash Peak or bathe in the Sindhu River that gave us the name “Hindu”? Once, Takshashila — the broadcasting centre of Hindu thought — was ours. Today, the very birthplace of the fierce Narasimha who saved Prahlada from Hiranyakashipu (Multan) lies crushed again under the iron feet of demonic hordes. Do such memories not make our blood boil?

The Bengal where thousands of sannyasis once gave their lives fighting is again in the same state. Unable to bear the violence of miscreants, Hindus are leaving villages in large numbers. The land where Adi Shankaracharya walked, Kerala, is burning like Ravana’s Lanka — over 250 young Hindus are murdered each year, and girls are falling prey to Love Jihad. Can we watch all this in silence? In Punjab today, some people are still fanning the flames of Khalistan separatism. Is it not your responsibility to put them out?

We must protect ourselves and the next generations so that external conditions do not cloud our vision or numb our minds. Believing that today’s political borders define the form of our complete motherland, and repeatedly thinking of them as such, we are killing our own inner spirit. This is a challenge to our manliness and intelligence. Political borders may shift at times due to wars or pressures — but that does not mean the lost territories are no longer part of our motherland.

Until 1947, was not the whole of our country under British control? Before that, were not parts of our country under Muslim rule for centuries? Does that mean, during those times, the land was not ours? Then why should we not fight to free territories under foreign control? Why should we not sacrifice for them? Every particle of this land has been sanctified by the sacred blood of countless martyrs who sacrificed their lives. If we say today that the territories lost to aggressors — whether Muslim or Chinese — are no longer ours and belong to them by right, it means we have lost even the will to reclaim them. It means we have sunk so low as to treat humiliation as honour, extinguishing our manhood.

Preserving this national aspiration from extinction is of utmost importance. If the desire to fight and the will to sacrifice everything to protect the integrity and independence of the motherland vanish, it strikes a deathblow to the honour and freedom of our race.

Profound, unwavering, and radiant devotion to the motherland is the foundation of an independent, prosperous, and glorious national life for any people. We are heirs to this supremely noble devotion to the motherland. The latent age-old devotion in every Hindu’s heart must flare up into a sacred flame that burns away all past aggressions on our motherland. Only then will the dream of reinstating Akhand Bharat Mata be fulfilled.

indonesia Ramayana

An example to show that though divided as countries, we remain united culturally: Indonesia too was once part of the Hindu cultural sphere. Crossing oceans and lands, there burns a light deep in hearts — the eternal Indian culture. Today, in a Muslim-majority Indonesia, in one temple, that light came alive again. On that stage, the Ramayana appeared not just as a story, but as a divine experience. In the eyes of every performer was devotion to Rama; in every expression, respect for Dharma; in every dance movement, the imperishability of Indian values was reflected. In their performance was heard the voice of Akhand Bharat, echoing even across distant islands.

This reminds us that Bharat is not just a country — it is a spiritual river flowing through the ages, and no boundaries or religions can stop its flow. Sanatana Dharma blooms and bears fruit not only where it was born but in every heart it touches. This scene tells us that the Indian soul cannot be bound, the light of Akhand Bharat cannot be extinguished, and no one can stop the name of Rama from resounding throughout the world. Bharat Mata ki Jai.
