DR Congo Awards Defence Contract to India’s Bharat Electronics for Advanced Anti-Drone System.

In a major boost to India's defence exports and international military collaboration, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has awarded a strategic defence contract to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for its D4 Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (D4iS).

This deal marks a significant milestone for India’s indigenous counter-drone technology on the global stage and strengthens ties between India and African defence partners.

What is the D4 Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System?
Developed by BEL in collaboration with Indian armed forces and DRDO labs, the D4iS is a next-generation system that can:

Detect, track, and classify drones using Radar, RF, and Electro-Optical sensors.
Jam and neutralize hostile UAVs with RF-based soft-kill measures.
Use hard-kill options like laser or kinetic weapons if required.

This integrated solution has already been deployed to protect high-value Indian assets including military bases, airports, and national events.

Why DR Congo Wants India's Anti-Drone Technology

The Democratic Republic of Congo, plagued by instability in its eastern provinces, is increasingly facing threats from armed rebel groups and cross-border insurgents who are now adopting modern warfare tools, including commercial and weaponized drones.

Several incidents in recent years have shown non-state actors using drones for:
Surveillance of military movements.
Transporting contraband and explosives.
Attacks on strategic sites.

With growing concerns of urban terror, insurgency infiltration, and border monitoring needs, the DRC is looking for affordable, effective, and rapid-deployment solutions—making India’s D4 system a perfect match.

Moreover, BEL’s D4iS provides comprehensive 360° protection and can be customized for static or mobile deployment, which is critical for conflict-prone zones in Congo’s eastern and central regions.
Strengthening India-Africa Defence Ties

The deal reflects growing African trust in India’s indigenous defence ecosystem and aligns with New Delhi’s “Security and Growth for All in the Region” (SAGAR) policy, now extending into the African continent.

It also highlights India’s emergence as a credible exporter of advanced technologies for non-traditional and asymmetric warfare, especially for nations seeking cost-effective, battlefield-tested solutions.

India's Defence Diplomacy on the Rise
This development follows a series of successful exports and collaborations involving Indian defence PSUs like HAL, BEL, and DRDO-backed systems. With countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East showing interest in Indian platforms, India is fast emerging as a global hub for affordable and reliable defence technologies.
